How to not feel perpetually homesick?

Hi there,

I have a question to ask you..

What feels like home when you are perpetually homesick?

When the self help books you meticulously read fails you, what reminds you of who you are?

For some of you, it could cost a lot to feel like yourself. On the other hand, it could also cost you a lot more if you don’t feel like yourself for a really long time.

Some people label it as loneliness and address it by seeking the company of other people. As a result, people continue to disappoint them and no one could ever make them feel validated. Hence, the cycle of loneliness, desperation and confusion perpetuates until one fine day, they experience a mental break down.

In order to not lose ourselves in the sea of unpredictable people and life situations, we must choose an everyday anchor.

Choosing an anchor is similar to building an armour before you get onto the battlefield.

This armour that no one can steal from you is your key to access the higher dimensions of you and that of the reality that you currently occupy.

The armour will remind you that you are so powerful that you don’t need an armour.

It will remind you that you are capable of self healing in the midst of crisis. It will remind you of your emotional independence while on an emotional rollercoaster.

My everyday anchor

To help you visualise how simple an everyday anchor can be, let me share what I do in my life.

One of my most favourite things to do every single day is having a warm cup of caramel latte and sitting in my balcony. I stare at the trees, the birds and the orange hues in the dawn sky. Taking a few deep breaths, I place my hand on my heart and send love to every soul in my field of view. I wish them the most amazing day filled with bliss and good health. This only takes a few minutes yet it reminds me of the fact that we all are united in the quantum realm. It also connects me to that fundamental nature of a human being that is pure love.

Sometimes, depending on how crazy my life gets, I keep some additional anchors in my ship.

On my busiest days, something as simple as reading my favourite book half hour before bed can make me feel at home. Listening to a podcast episode while cooking my dinner can put me in touch with my heart, my senses and my creative spirit.

On the days that I am most overwhelmed, I make sure to extend my meditation session by an hour. I let my mind wander into the unknown infinite field of potentiality. I dive into a journey of self inquiry, often surprised by the intuitive answers I get from the source and the divinity within me. My self reflection ends with a powerful journalling session.

When you have nothing left, you still have your breath. Simply taking few deep breaths can be your anchor. Believe it or not, your breath heals. Exercising your breath balances your physiology and your energetic field thereby restoring homeostasis. When I exercise my breath, I get reminded of the impermanence of my emotions and the permanence of my soul, that is pure loving awareness witnessing everything going on within and around me. This train of thought never fails to anchor me to a calm and peaceful space.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure it is sustainable throughout the highs and lows of your life. Regardless of who is with you or what is going on around you, your anchor never lets you down.

So, what is your everyday anchor? I would love to know!

Take care of yourself <3

  1. Great post. You’re right sometimes in the storm of it all called life, we easily lose ourselves. So important to take a step back to just breathe and soak it all in.

    1. Thank you, I agree, I am glad you resonated with it 🙂
